Welcome to the Family Law & Cannabis Alliance (FLCA)!
Leaving no parent or legal guardian behind while ending cannabis prohibition.
Because marijuana user ≠ bad parent.
About & Services
The Family Law & Cannabis Alliance is a clearinghouse for local, state-based, and national information related to marijuana policy, child protective services (CPS), and family court. Learn more about our mission & values, who we are, what we do, and our partners and supporters using the links above under About and Services. If you are an attorney, please visit our page for lawyers.
How to Handle CPS
If you are a parent (or parent-to-be) looking for general tips and information on how to prepare for a home visit or other interaction with CPS, visit the How to Handle CPS page.
For general information and an overview of CPS and marijuana laws across the United States, please visit Resources > National (U.S.). This page discusses mandated reporting, substance-exposed newborns, and drug-exposed children, along with federal CPS laws and the Controlled Substances Act. An understanding of these topics is important to facilitate your understanding of state-level resources.
If you are looking for information on CPS and marijuana laws in your state, please visit Resources > State Profiles. We will be adding more states during the coming weeks and months. Please note: We have collected this information to assist custodial and noncustodial parents, guardians, pregnant women, their lawyers, public policy professionals, and non-profit organizations. It is available for educational and informational purposes only. See our full legal disclaimer here.
For information on the existing peer-reviewed research on medical marijuana, prenatal marijuana exposure, breastfeeding risks, and other clinical concerns, please use the links under Resources > Cannabis Research.
